ICRE Outreach Day: Saturday May 18th

Artists For Harmony is making a special Saturday visit to the Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education – Roosevelt (ICRE-R) on Saturday May 18th at 11am as part of our AFH Outreach Program. ICRE-R is a state funded facility where young people dealing with physical and/or mental disabilities both live in and are taught classes. ICRE-R lacks the funding to improve their facilities so that is where AFH Outreach comes in. We will be working on two different projects. 1. Mural – AFH President Michael Trulis has designed a mural which will be sketched out on a hallway inside the ICRE facility. Volunteers will help turn the charcoal outline into a work of art. No painting experience is necessary, but some coloring book experience is recommended. 2. Backyard Improvements – We will be building planter boxes, planting flowers and trees and doing general cleanup in their backyard area. No prior knowledge of building or gardening is necessary. Knowing what a hammer is might help.

Meals From The Heart Recap

This is Artists For Harmony’s second trip in as many years to the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago as part of the Meals From The Heart program, but our first to the new state of the art facility. Our April Fools-themed menu, prepared by volunteer coordinator Jason Thorn, included meatloaf and mash potato “cupcakes” as well as angel food cake and frosting disguised as grilled cheese sandwiches for dessert. After dinner, the families enjoyed a few more tricks performed by Jeremy Pitt-Payne: “The Magician from Britain”.  It was a terrific evening, and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who made it possible!   Click here for more pictures
