ICRE Outreach Day Recap

It was a beautiful Saturday, and we could not be more grateful for all the volunteers who supported our efforts to help beautify the Illinois Center For Rehabilitation and Education-Roosevelt during the second AFH Outreach Day this year.  The hand-built flower boxes, custom painted birdhouses and flower pots, solar lights, and planted flowers have added a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Chicago for the ICRE students.

The mural was also a huge success. Generous volunteers, including several wonderful students from Hancock College Prep. High School, made AFH president Michael Trulis’ design come to life.

The mural, which was titled after Rosa Parks’ mugshot number, portrays various other inspirational African American figures including Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Gwendolyn Brooks, President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Derrick Rose, and Buddy Guy.
